Texas Longhorns Football TicketsThe University of Texas fielded its first football team during the 1893 season and quickly became one of the most popular teams in the region. Texas joined the Southwest Conference in 1915, where it would remain for eight decades until switching to the newly formed Big 12 Conference in 1996. Between 1957 and 1976, the team achieved its most sustained success under head coach Darren K. Royal, who won national championships in 1963, 1969 and 1970. After Royal stepped down, Fred Akers led Texas to an 11-1 season with legendary running back Earl Campbell. Texas would win another national championship under head coach Mack Brown. An undefeated season in 2005 culminated with a 41-38 win over USC in the Rose Bowl. The team once again reached the BCS National Championship Game in 2009 but lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
