What is the home game venue like?The 670,000-square-foot Amalie Arena opened its doors in October of 1996 with its first Tampa Bay Lightning game taking place on the 20th of that month. It was designed specifically with hockey in mind. It holds nearly 20,000 hockey fans. In 2002, the venue was named the St. Pete Times Forum after originally being called the Ice Palace. In 2011, the arena then became named the Tampa Bay Times Forum and then finally the Amalie Arena in 2014.
